Maria "Vicky" Sanchez

DIED: February 26, 2015


Major Maria "Vicky" Sanchez served with the United States Air Force for more than 24 years. She completed tours of duty in Iraq and in  Afghanistan before her death in 2015.   


Vicky joined the military in 1990 after graduating from Santa Maria High School. According to Vicky's obituary, she began her career as a Phlebotomist in the Air Force before joining the USAF Reserves. Vicky earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at CSU Bakersfield and returned to Active Duty in 2002. In 2008, Vicky earned her Masters' Degree in Business Administration. She was on tour in Afghanistan when she was diagnosed with cancer.  


Three years after Vicky's death, her children and extended family planted a tree in her name. You can find Vicky's tree at the top of Bunker Hill at Camp Hamilton Veterans Memorial Park.
